YUVEL SORIA

ABOUT

Yuvel Soria is a British-Bolivian diasporic artist. He employs a multidisciplinary approach in his work. His artistic exploration centres on notions of (dual)nationality, locality, ethnicity, belonging, intersectionality, and culture. Traditional Bolivian dance, Latin and contemporary dance are the main elements in his movement vocabulary. He focuses on collaborative projects that straddle live art and performance art. He creates interactive and immersive works that are accessible through different sensory layers and offer landscapes for shared encounters. His works provide an open space for audience participation and experience.
Yuvel Soria was born in Bolivia and is trained in traditional Bolivian dance. He has toured extensively in South America (from 1994-2004) with Ballet Flolclorico Municipal de Cochabamba, a contemporary traditional Bolivian dance company. In 2004, Soria moved to the UK and trained in contemporary dance and has since developed as a freelance dance artist, choreographer and facilitator.

He is also
an experienced community dance practitioner, leading projects in Newcastle and the wider region and other cities across the UK, including London, Birmingham, and Bradford. Soria delivers dynamic movement sessions, drawing inspiration from Latin and contemporary dance. These sessions blend creativity with physical expression, working towards increasing activity levels and developing strength and confidence. He aims to push boundaries and shift societal perceptions surrounding age and ability. Soria likes to explore the use of different art forms such as theatre, film, music, and digital technology, alongside dance, to enrich the experience for participants and foster inclusivity.
